Camping and RVing in Western Canada opens your senses to the most beautiful natural scenery you have every seen. Around every corner you will see epic mountain ranges, cascading waterfalls, ice blue lakes, white capped rivers and emerald green forests. We immersed ourselves in nature and spent 12 days enjoying the carefree camping lifestyle while sleeping under the stars. The sounds of nature and wildlife are abundant, each evening hearing different sounds in every destination.
Our journey began with renting our trailer that had all the comforts of home which included a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom. I guess you can say we were “Glamping” not camping. Here are some pictures of the RV type we rented.
British Columbia’s backyard provides campers and RVers with numerous choices of camping sweet spots. Over 1,700 campgrounds are located throughout the provinces pristine outdoors, and just waiting to accommodate the varying needs of campers with sites (pitches) ranging from rustic to full service. We had a very difficult time trying to pick our camping locations as there were so many to choose from.It is important when planning, that you map out your drive and look for campgrounds along the way, most require pre-booking.
We decided to start our vacation in BC’s Wine Country in beautiful Osoyoos, which is home to some of the best wineries and fruit orchards in Canada.We stayed at NK’Mip Campground and Winery, which was a perfect location.The campground featured a warm shallow lake, perfect for water sports such as boating and kayaking.In the evening with a glass of red wine in hand, we experienced a view over the lake at sunset, which was one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.
After two days in BC’s wine country we headed off to Revelstoke, BC, home to the iconic dam.We headed for Martha’s Creek just upstream from the dam and were greeted by some of the most epic scenery I have ever seen. We proceeded to set up camp and pull out our kayaks for a relaxing day on the water.
Martha’s Creek itself is stunning with a little waterfall cascading into the aquifer which was a nice surprise along a nature hike.The campground was fully equipped with showers, toilets, and water stations, so it is perfect if you are in a tent or RV.
The historic Revelstoke Dam is only a short 10-minute drive and is a must see if you’re in the area.
We also visited the Crazy Creek Waterfall and Suspension bridge, which is a must see if you're passing through Revelstoke.
As we left Revelstoke, we headed to the majestic Canadian Rockies and Lake Louise in Alberta.
We only stayed for lunch as we had visited this area in the past.Lake Louise is home to one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and is worth the stop. We had an amazing hike around the trails of the lake with our dog Ruffy
We turned off the main Hwy # 1 Trans Canada, to drive to Jasper along the famous Ice Highway. This is one of the most scenic drives in the world. Along the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93) the jaw-dropping scenery is home to more than 100 ancient glaciers, waterfalls cascading from dramatic rock spires and turquoise lakes set in sweeping valleys. There are so many places where you can pull over to take spectacular photos or find a trailhead to hike. You’ll want to take your time, with many must-see stops along the way. Remember to fill up your gas tank before leaving Lake Louise – there’s only one service station along the route.

Arriving is Jasper was truly like heavens gates have opened, as you are greeted with a stunning landscape and wildlife along the road.It was the first place along our trip we saw a black bear along the side of the highway. Jasper National Park is home to everything Canadian, from Mounties in the Village to mountain sheep by the Gondola. The Jasper SkyTram Gondola is a must do and enjoy the Prairie Dog Goffers at the top. Our dog had a blast chasing all the little critters at the top of the mountain.Remember to bring a jacket as it does get a little chilly at the top of the mountain.
After over a week in the trailer we decided to visit Becker’s Chalets for a different camping experience.The Resort featured luxury Chalets from 2-4 people.The restaurant was closed due to Covid -19, but all suites have fully equipped kitchens. They are just 5 minutes south of the Town of Jasper.
Our trip continued to a lesser know destination of Mount Robson Provincial Park just across the BC- Alberta border. We are so happy we included this stop on our camping trip.The camp site itself was very secluded in the middle of the forest next to an ice blue river.We had a lot of time to experience nature and take hikes to cascading waterfalls in the area.
As we load up the trailer for our trip home, we reflected on all the wonderful places that we have visited over the past two weeks.It is important to take the time to stop and smell the roses along the way.Canada truly is an amazing country and if you like the outdoors and nature this is a wonderful way to experience it.The Great Canadian Vacation awaits and let the experts at our agency assist you with your travels.
