ten-year dream of Philip and Paolo (beloved friends and owners of Villa Fontelunga, a magical gem in Tuscany), their new passion project, Borgo 69 is nearly finished. Established as the first contemporary styled Villa property in Tuscany for over the last 20 years Philip and Paolo have cultivated a world-wide reputation and extensive loyal customer base with what they like to call their “contemporary informal luxury” properties.
This stunning complex of 12 one, two and three bedroom villas lies within walking distance of the village of Foiano della Chiana and Villa Fontelunga and is one hour south of Florence. Other villages in the area are Cortona, Monte San Savino and Arezzo.
The villas are the structural dream of Philip and Paolo, but the overall design is the creation of the award-winning film art director Lynne Huitson. The effect is modern and chic, while respecting the rustic Tuscan charm of the original buildings. Each villa has a garden or a terrace with gorgeous views across the valley to Cortona. Run as a boutique villa hotel, Borgo 69 marries the privacy and flexibility of a self-catered villa while offering the services of an expert concierge and a charming restaurant and bar called Emporio di Ines. Chef Carlo Porcu, who also runs a fantastic restaurant in the village, will oversee the kitchen. Borgo 69’s shop sells local produce and artifacts, and a short walk takes you to a wonderful pizza ristorante in the village. There is a large heated lap pool, and each villa has a full kitchen and a fireplace and all the bedrooms have their own luxury en-suite bathroom.
The Villas offer open plan living areas with fully equipped kitchens, private terraces or gardens, each having a luxury bathroom for every bedroom, air conditioning, Wi Fi, integrated advanced multi-room sound system and an open fire to see you through the cooler months.
The villas offer total privacy; 11 are on two levels, with one villa offering ground-floor level only. This is an exciting new development in Tuscany, offering guests many options as well as interesting activities in the neighborhood. There are gorgeous walks in the countryside and the dogs at Villa Fontelunga are always eager to be taken out for a walk. The villas will be open year-round.
SUSTAINABILITY
They have looked at ways to step lightly on this earth adding technologies so their villas have a low environmental impact. They use of photovoltaic panels that captures the sun’s energy for our own clean energy. Insulation is key in making the villas energy efficient. The ‘inverter’ technology in the air conditioning continuosly regulates the temperature of the villas helping cut energy consumption. Fully electric cars emit no harmful exhaust fumes. They have an electric car charger onsite for our guests to use.
In their own market garden they grow varieties of vegetables and fruits, native to Tuscany, which means that guests can enjoy the freshest seasonal ingredients in their restaurant, harvested that morning. Their breakfast breads are from the local bakery in Pozzo and their produce comes from small family run farms in the area.
