#5 Inverloch
A beach town located less than 2 hours drive south east of Melbourne. The beaches around Inverloch are known for their calm waters and are a family favorite. The still waters of Anderson inlet merge with the Tarwin River making a calm estuary often described by the locals as a coastal treasure.
#4 Lakes Entrance
A tourist resort and fishing port in Eastern Australia only 3 hours drive from Melbourne. Main beach can be reached by crossing a footbridge from town and is popular with families because it is patrolled by lifesavers during the Summer. Made up of golden sand frequent visitors at Main beach are the local seals and dolphins.
#3 Wilsons Promontory
The west coast of Wilsons Promontory contains a number of incredibly beautiful beaches which can only be reached by walking along a man made walking track. Home to many marsupials, native birds and other creatures, Wilsons Promontory is a National Park. Known as the “Prom” to the locals, it is the largest coastal wilderness area in Victoria. Camping in either cabins or cabins is permitted at Wilsons promontory so you can overnight and discover the secluded beaches for yourself.
#2 Ninety Mile beach
Ninety mile beach is located near the town of Sale, about 3 hours South East from Melbourne. This sandy stretch of beach is located in East Gippsland, facing the Bass strait. You can walk for hours along the beach which contains golden powdery sand, surrounded by a natural bush environment.
#1 Phillip island
Phillip island contains both surf beaches and calm, sheltered family beaches. The North coast beaches are generally more protected and have calmer waters than the beaches of the South coast. One of the best family friendly beaches on the island is located in the town of Cowes. Sheltered from the southerly winds, main beach has fine white sand crystals that seem shimmer in the sunlight. Philip island is known for it’s “penguin parade” which attracts visitors from all over the world. Drop in to the Koala conservation center on the island and explore the tree top boardwalks and come face to face with koalas in their natural habitat.
